Careers - Student & Graduate Information

Hi, my name is Derek Demers and I am a Mechanical Engineering student at Laurentian University.  This past summer I was presented with the opportunity to work with the Mechanical Division at TESC.  I decided to take up the offer, hoping to gain some valuable field experience.  I was positioned at the Vale Inco Smelter to work on the Flash Furnace shutdown.  My role was to assist the superintendent with organizing and maintaining all of the construction drawings on site.  At first I was very nervous because I had not worked in this type of environment before.  That feeling was short lived, for the TESC workers made me feel comfortable and were all willing to help and guide me with any task.  I learned a great deal about construction drawings and picked up a lot of industrial field experience, which is essential to my advancement as a Mechanical Engineering student.  TESC has been so generous for giving me this opportunity, and I am very grateful for having experienced it.

Thank you so much TESC,

Sincerely,

Derek Demers
