Canadian Kraft Paper Industries Ltd.
Time and Material.
Canadian Kraft Paper Industries (CKPI) employed Raumaster Oy, located in Rauma, Finland, for the engineering and supply of a Chip Thickness Screening (CTS) system to remove contaminants from the mill’s chip supply.
A new building located to the East side of the chip pile beside the C2 conveyor (to Digesters) was engineered by KGS Group to house the screening equipment and auxiliary systems. Two new conveyor assemblies will be tied into the existing chip handling conveyor systems to transport chips to and from the screening equipment. The CTS equipment, equipment support steel and two new conveyor assemblies were delivered and stored on-site in sea-can containers and their stores’ compound. The civil installation was completed in the fall of 2018 (with the exception of the building floor slab), which allowed for the erection of the equipment support steel, conveyors and building to begin prior to thaw in the spring. The E&I scope for this project was covered by in-house resources. The installation of the fire protection system was sourced by CKPI. TESC was engaged for the mechanical and structural installation of the Chip Thickness Screening system and associated building in The Pas, Manitoba.
TESC was responsible for supplying cranes and overseeing the coordination between multiple trades and subcontractors. With proper planning and by maintaining frequent communication with the engineer and the client, the TESC team managed to overcome minor challenges that have surfaced throughout the project, such as delay of steel to site, weather and succeeded with upholding the schedule. The work was executed alongside a shutdown in the existing facility.
The project was successfully completed on time, under budget and with no recordable injuries.
