Role Overview
This position supports budgeting, forecasting, earned value analysis, and financial governance to ensure alignment between contractual requirements, cost performance, and organizational objectives. Working closely with Project Management and Finance, the Cost Control Analyst provides actionable insights that support informed decision-making and protect overall project financial outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the full project budget lifecycle from kickoff through closeout, ensuring accurate cost breakdown structures, system configuration, and alignment between estimates, cost codes, and contractual commitments.
- Participate in Project Kickoff Meetings to validate contractual scope, financial assumptions, reporting requirements, and cost control frameworks.
- Develop and maintain Earned Value Management (EVM) forecasts, trend analysis, and Estimates at Completion (EAC), ensuring alignment between budgets, commitments, actuals, and projected performance.
- Prepare and deliver weekly and monthly project cost reports, including cash flow projections, backlog analysis, and key performance indicators.
- Perform variance analysis to identify cost trends, risks, and mitigation strategies, clearly communicating financial impacts to stakeholders.
- Monitor labour productivity, hours, and cost performance to ensure early identification of deviations from project targets.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Estimating, Planning, Scheduling, and Finance teams to ensure accurate cost allocation, commitments, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Act as a key liaison between Project Management and Finance, fostering transparency, alignment, and a collaborative working environment.
- Validate subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders against approved budgets and investigate discrepancies or risks.
- Partner with Finance and Accounting to support progress measurement, invoicing, revenue recognition, and overall project financial governance.
- Lead project financial closeout activities, including final cost reconciliation, subcontract balance confirmation, holdback verification, final reporting, and system closeout within Jonas ERP.
- Prepare standard and ad hoc analytical reports to support operational and strategic project reviews.
- Support internal audits by providing accurate and timely project cost and financial information.
What you Bring
- University degree or College Diploma in Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in cost control or project accounting, in construction/project-based environments.
- Certified Cost Professional (CCP – AACE International) and/or Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with macros and dashboard development preferred.
- Experience with Jonas ERP or similar construction/project-based systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of job costing and project accounting principles.
- General knowledge of payroll, accounting processes, and business operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. French is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex financial and technical information.
- Proven ability to perform effectively under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.

- Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 + pension + benefits. Starting salary will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.
