Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Coordinator

Role Overview

The HSE Coordinator is responsible for monitoring, assisting, and conducting health, safety and environmental activities to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable legislation. This role supports project teams through proactive safety planning, training coordination, compliance auditing, incident investigation, and safety administration.

Core Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support site compliance with company HSE policies, programs, client standards, and all applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) audits, interactive audits, Critical Control Verifications (CCVs), site condition inspections, emergency preparedness reviews, and other internal, regulatory, and client-driven audits as required.
  • Support site leadership in preparing and delivering daily safety meetings and toolbox talks, ensuring proper documentation and reporting within company and client systems.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to project management teams to ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement of project safety compliance plans.
  • Identify, document, and report non-conformances; recommend corrective and preventative actions; and track follow-up actions to ensure timely resolution.
  • Support pre-mobilization and ongoing project activities by verifying training requirements, maintaining training matrices, and coordinating internal, client, and external training programs.
  • Assist with employee onboarding by creating profiles in company and client systems and guiding personnel through required documentation and orientation processes.
  • Support the development and implementation of project safety plans, rescue plans, permit systems, and emergency preparedness activities, including mock rescue drills.
  • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring corrective and preventative actions are implemented and documented.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Head Office Safety Department to ensure alignment with company safety standards and reporting requirements.
  • Provide coverage for Site Safety Coordinators during absences to ensure continuity of site health and safety oversight.

What you Bring

  • College diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, related technical training or experience.
  • NCSO certification or CRSP designation (or actively working toward certification) is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of construction activities, hazards, and safe work practices, including applicable health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of safety experience in construction projects.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, for reporting, documentation management, data tracking, and safety presentations.
  • Demonstrated investigative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail when conducting incident investigations and safety assessments.
  • Organized with strong documentation and record-management skills to support compliance, reporting, and audit requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively prioritizing and managing multiple tasks in fast-paced construction and industrial environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, crews, and clients while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as operationally required.

Base rate of pay: $30 - $36 per hour. Rate will be determined based on relevant experience and qualifications.
